Desktops for Peace

Building peace on the desktops of children
Abuna Elias Chacour

We are dedicated to supporting the peace initiatives of Abuna Elias Chacour, one time Archbishop of the largest Christian community in Israel. A three times Nobel peace prize nominee he has been awarded other prestigious ones.  We started up in the wake of the Elijah Trust [ET], the only UK charity then supporting MEEI.*  The ET collapsed in 2011 due to the deaths of its trustees, data protection laws meant their extensive data base of supporters vanished without trace. We in the South West of England [near Plymouth] have since tried to regenerate the level of support the ET developed over its years of existence. Just a few months ago though, it looked as if we too would cease to exist. However the major illnesses [plus the death of our treasurer] which were major factors here have, hallelujah, seemingly been cured, or at least put in long term remission. At an extraordinary general meeting in October ’24 our remaining trustees voted unimously to continue and to redouble our efforts for Abuna’s inspired creation.

The years between 2020 – 2023 were spent in moratorium – this plus  loss of key personnel meant the loss of our, in all modesty, rather special website. Now in the early stages of renewal.

*MEEI = Mar Elias Educational Institutions, the school and college complex built up by Abuna over many years in Ibillin, Galilee, ranging from Kindergarten to University level, for children and students of any and all races and faiths. Excellent academic progress is pursued in a practical context of learning to live together in peace.
